Diwali on the Street:15 Years of Showing Up

This Diwali, we visited 10 families in our neighbourhood — groceries, sweets, fireworks. Simple things.

But behind that is 15 years of showing up.

Schools. Colleges. Street corners. Village homes.
Communication skills. Career preparation. Blanket drives. Food distribution.

Since 2011, One Village One India has quietly been doing this work — in Hyderabad, and in our village.

Swami Vivekananda said it best:

"God is present in every Jiva; there is no other God besides that. Who serves Jiva, serves God indeed."

Diwali is a reminder.
The light was always there.

You don't need a trust, a team, or a budget.

One family is enough.

Think of a house on your street where Diwali will be quiet this year — the watchman's, the maid's, the man who irons your clothes.

Go there. And when you do, thank them for letting you serve.

That's the whole thing.

From College to First Job: Career Preparation at Vivekananda Kendra Kaushalam

A degree gets you to the gate. Nobody tells you what happens after that.

Most students we meet have the marks. What they do not have is anyone who has sat on the other side of an interview table and can tell them what it actually looks like.

So we go and tell them.

How to write a resume that is one page and true. How to answer “tell me about yourself” without reciting your biodata. What to do with your hands. How to ask a question at the end. And what to do in your first week of work when you understand nothing and are afraid to say so.

No fee. No agency. Just people who have already been through it.

We have been doing this since 2014 — in engineering colleges around Vinjamur, in government schools in Hyderabad, and once on the streets of Ameerpet, handing interview notes to students walking between coaching centres.

Here is the only rule we ask anyone to take away:

Every campus recruit should help another fresher. Every fresher who lands a job should help another who is still looking.

That is how this spreads. Not through us. Through you.

Some of the students we helped years ago are working now, and a few have come back to fund the next ones. If you run a college or a training centre and want a session, write to us. We will come.

Finding Their Voice: A Communication Skills Workshop for Children

A six year old stood up with a microphone and a sheet of paper and spoke to a room full of children. Her hands shook a little. He finished anyway.

That is the whole point.

We spend years teaching children what to know and almost no time teaching them how to say it. In government schools and small towns especially, bright children lose opportunities not because they lack the answer but because nobody has ever asked them to stand up and give it.

At the Vivekananda Kendra branch in Nagole, Hyderabad, we spent a day with children on exactly this. Standing up. Looking at people. Saying your name clearly. Telling a story you already know. Reading out loud without rushing.

Nothing complicated. No equipment. A microphone, a room, and an adult who listens properly.

The banner behind them that day read “You are the Creator of your own Destiny”. Swami Vivekananda said it another way:

“Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man.”

The perfection is already there. Our job is to get out of its way.

If you run a school, a kendra or a youth group and want a session like this, write to us. There is no fee. We have done this in government schools in Hyderabad, in Vinjamur, and in colleges across Nellore district, and we will come to you.
